A Little bit of luxury in a basket

September 13th, 2009

Every woman loves to pamper herself a little bit from time to time, so spa gift baskets can make a great present for the woman in your life.  A weekend trip to a spa can be expensive and time consuming, but sometimes you can turn your bathroom into your own private spa with women  gift baskets.  In today’s economic climate, mothers and wives may be hesitant to “splurge” a little bit on themselves, so giving them the tools to do this can be a welcome treat for them.

There are lots of different kinds of spa gift baskets, covering a wide range of prices and products.  A quick internet search will yield a long list of different merchants and products.  Before you make a selection, it might be wise to do a little bit of snooping to see what your special lady likes.  You should be looking for things like favorite fragrances or product types (lotions, bubble baths, foot scrubs, etc.), and chose a basket which has similar products.

Another option is to create your own gift basket.  Many specialty bath product stores (like Bath and Bodyworks) allow you to customize your own gift basket in the store.  Simply pick a basket and fill it with whatever products you think the lady in your life would appreciate.  Start with the basics (lotion, bubble bath, colorful sponge) and add in a few personal choices.  Salesclerks are usually more than happy to help you select good additions to a gift basket.

I Met the New Pastor Today.

July 29th, 2008

Yes, our church has a new Pastor. We knew he would be arriving this weekend, we just did not expect that he would think to come by the church and hall and check his new congregation out in advance. We were all there, well, most of us. It was Granny Newton’s 93rd birthday and pretty much everyone came by to wish her well.

I was in the kitchen, filling serving platters with meat when the door opened and in walked the new Pastor. Of course everyone was glad to meet him, and he seemed like a very nice man. I just had to stop and think about it though. How it must feel for him to be now in a new home, with a new group of people, with so much to learn about his new congregation.

I stopped to say a small prayer that he will feel welcome and at home with us before the first week is up. I prayed that he would be happy in his new home, doing the work of our Lord. I ‘m sure others prayed as well. We all know what it feels like to be in a new home, a new place and among new people. I am looking forward to knowing our new Pastor better, I’m sure he will be happy here.

Women can Spread the Word of God Too.

May 13th, 2008

An often debated issue with in the Protestant faith is whether or not women should be allowed to serve in the church as ministers, elders or deacons. As a woman, I am quite partial to allowing women taking on any role she feels called to do. Often times people quote the Bible at the places where it says that “women should keep silent in the church,” but what about at Jesus’ Resurrection?

The first people he saw were women and the first thing he told them to do were to “go and tell other what you have seen.” Is that not basically what a minister does?

Overcome Jealousy and Greed

April 19th, 2008

The modern world is full of greedy people coveting other people’s  property, positions, or possessions. When one covets what another has, they are showing a lack of faith that the Lord will provide. People also don’t see what they have and end up losing it while in pursuit of that which they don’t have. In the end, the items we want so desperately to hold on to or gain are worthless. What we have done with our lives is how God judges us.

Begin this week by choosing not to be greedy. Before going after whatever thing you want, ask yourself: “Do I really NEED this”? Use the money your were going to spend on that item to buy a gourmet gift for someone else. Thou Shall Not Covet is the most broken commandment. We  all need to try harder not to want what others have. Strive to be a person who doesn’t let greed run your life.
