Give and You Will Receive

April 26th, 2008

God wants us to be generous and give. There are several passages in the Bible attesting to the fact that giving is the way of the Lord. The giving must be pure with no hidden motives. You can fool others, you can kid yourself, but the Lord will always see the truth in your heart. There are several ways to give. Volunteering is one way to show you care by giving of yourself.

Giving gifts is another way, it shows thoughtfulness. Monetary gifts are versatile and can be used where needed. Whichever method of giving you choose, it should be what works best for you.

Luke 6:38, Jesus says,
“… for the measure you give will be the measure you get back.”

Overcome Jealousy and Greed

April 19th, 2008

The modern world is full of greedy people coveting other people’s  property, positions, or possessions. When one covets what another has, they are showing a lack of faith that the Lord will provide. People also don’t see what they have and end up losing it while in pursuit of that which they don’t have. In the end, the items we want so desperately to hold on to or gain are worthless. What we have done with our lives is how God judges us.

Begin this week by choosing not to be greedy. Before going after whatever thing you want, ask yourself: “Do I really NEED this”? Use the money your were going to spend on that item to buy a gourmet gift for someone else. Thou Shall Not Covet is the most broken commandment. We  all need to try harder not to want what others have. Strive to be a person who doesn’t let greed run your life.

Infant Baptism

April 11th, 2008

“Jesus answered, ‘Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter into the Kingdom of God.’ ” (John 3:5)

At what age does a child need baptized? There is much controversy in this matter. Some say baptism is for people who have accepted Jesus into their lives. Infants are too young to known if they did wrong and to repent their sins. Others say that Jesus wanted the children, encouraged parents to have them brought to him.

“Now they were bringing even infants to him that he might touch them; and when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them to him, saying, ‘Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them; for to such belongs the kingdom of God’” (Luke 18:15–16).

Choosing infant baptism is a personal choice made by parents. Often it will become a celebration with a gathering of friends and family and gifts for the infant. Many gifts idea include engraved Bibles, crucifixes, St. Christopher medallions, and Bible story themed blankets or throws. A Bless This Baby gift basket, from TheBasketSpot.com,  is a beautiful gift which includes an embroidered Bible and silver crucifix included.

Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda

April 4th, 2008

Too often we look back and wish we had done something different. You could have visited Grandma before she passed away. You should have said "I love you" more to your previous spouse. You would have spent more time with your children had you not been so busy. Now is the time to stop wishing you could change previous actions.

Start forming your future past by doing in the present. Today is tomorrows yesterday. Make tomorrows memories what you want them to be. Call or visit someone you haven’t spoken to in a while. Thank someone in your life that deserves it. Compliment a stranger. Live the life God intended us to live today and you will have no coulda, shoulda, woulda’s to regret.
