The Basics of Christianity

June 26th, 2008

Christianity – a religion based around the beliefs of Jesus Christ. This belief is a personal belief. There are certain things that Christians will and will not do based on their belief. Our solid belief is in Jesus Christ, The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Our book of authority is The Bible which consists of two testaments, the old and the new.

Christians are a gift and are here to serve Christ and spread his teachings. We attend church on a regular basis, usually on Sundays and Wednesdays for services taught by our pastors. A lot of our beliefs are based on the Ten Commandments. The Ten Commandments are a guide to God’s laws and the Christian way of life.

1. God should be your only God.
2. You are not to make an idol of yourself.
3. No wrongful use of God’s name, meaning that you should not swear or curse using God’s name.
4. Remember the Sabbath and keep it Holy.
5. Honor your mother and father, meaning you should show them the respect that they are due.
6. You are not to murder. We are all God’s children. Only God has the right to take a life.
7. You are not to commit adultery, meaning you are to be faithful to your husband or wife.
8. Do not steal.
9. Do not bear false witness against your neighbor.
10. Don’t covet your neighbor’s house or wife.

Christians should always adhere to their beliefs. If you are not a Christian and wish to become one you must put your faith in Jesus Christ and recognize that he is above all others. A great gift to Christians is the Bible. A great verse for a new Christian or someone wanting to become a Christian is:

John 3:16
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Christianity is a very interesting religion to study. The history is amazing and very unbelievable. You should take the time to learn more about your Christianity religion. If you know someone who may be interested in Christianity, give them a gift of a Bible and a reference so they can easily look up passages they are interested in.
