Food Gift Baskets For All Of Our Volunteers
December 22nd, 2008
Every year around the holidays, many families are in need of a helping hand. They depend on charitable and volunteer organizations to create some semblance of holiday cheer in their home. Whether they need food gifts, toys, or warm winter coats, families who are lucky enough to receive some additional help are incredibly grateful, and the feeling of giving lasts a long time.
In order to thank the many volunteers we have every year working so hard to extend some cheer, we would like to pass on a gift to our volunteers as well. We would like to give our volunteers food gift baskets to take home to their own families.
People who work a food drive often give up valuable family time and work long hours. In the spirit of giving they make sacrifices, oftentimes working all day, to make sure that families in need are able to enjoy a warm and comforting meal with each other. At the end of a long day, to go home and to have to create a meal for their own family can be exhausting and off-putting. Being able to leave the center with their own food saves them this extra burden.
Our volunteers are compassionate, giving people, some of whom may have experienced want or need in their own lives and this is what motivates them to contribute to others. Or perhaps, they still do experience need and thus they are keenly aware of what a difference a little help can make.
Whatever their personal reasons, or personal history, they have chosen to spend their holiday helping others. For this reason, they should be thanked, but unfortunately, they cannot be thanked by those they are helping. That is why we would like to thank them ourselves.
Giving our volunteers food gift baskets is a small token, but it speaks volumes. The gift of food is akin to the gift of life. It nourishes our mind, body and spirit. Jesus broke bread and shared fish with his disciples and fed the poor.
The gift of food is also a gift of gathering. Food is meant to be shared when consumed. It brings people together. That is why giving food over the holidays, like the chez gourmet snacks gift basket, is even more important because it is a time when people are creating memories to be shared.
Throughout history, our holidays have been centered on food and the family table. Whether it’s turkey for Thanksgiving, barbecue on the 4th of July, lamb for Easter, or ham for Christmas, food plays an integral role in how we celebrate and mark such festive occasions. It is the gift that keeps on giving and the gift that we always remember. This year, let us all be mindful of each other. Let us work hard to help the needy people we come across in our own lives, and if we are able, to even help the needy that we don’t regularly see. Nothing feels better than giving, and it is the spirit of the season.
